Not On The High Street's fee structure is short — one commission, one joining fee, no listing fees — but both numbers are bigger than they first read, because VAT applies to the fees themselves. Here it is properly, verified August 2026.
| Fee | Quoted | With VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Commission per sale (on product price) | 25% | 30% |
| One-off joining fee | £199 | £238.80 |
If you're VAT-registered you can reclaim the VAT element, making the effective rates 25% and £199; most small makers aren't, so 30% and £238.80 are the real numbers. On a £30 product, NOTHS keeps £9 — roughly three times what Etsy's stack takes on the same item, and about four times Folksy's.
The honest case for the price: NOTHS is a curated, application-only marketplace with a strong gifting brand, big seasonal marketing, and press reach that individual makers can't buy — and no listing fees means dormant products cost nothing. The commission is doing the marketing job you'd otherwise fund yourself. Whether it's worth it depends entirely on whether their buyer actually buys your kind of product — gift-shaped, giftable-price-point items do best by the marketplace's own positioning.
Your delivery costs (you set delivery prices; commission treatment can depend on your partner terms — check yours), your packaging, and any promotional participation. And the joining fee is paid before your first sale, on an application you might not have been accepted for a year earlier — it's a real barrier, deliberately: the curation is the product.
The classic NOTHS mistake is listing at your Etsy price. At 30% commission, a product priced for a 6.5%-commission world loses its margin entirely. NOTHS' own gifting positioning supports higher prices than open marketplaces — price each channel for its fee stack, and if a product can't carry a 30% commission at a believable price, it's an Etsy/Folksy product, not a NOTHS one.
